Background & Experience

I am a licensed professional counselor of mental health in the state of Delaware and Pennsylvania and am Board Certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors.  I received a masters degree in counseling from the University of Massachusetts in 1983 and have worked as a therapist for twenty years taking several years off to raise a family. I am a member in good standing of Delaware Mental Health Counselors Association and the American Mental Health Counselors Association. I am also a co-founder of Silverside Counseling Center.

In addition, I am a Level II EMDRIA trained EMDR clinician and have been incorporating EMDR into my practice since 2001.  I work with individuals (ages 15 and up), couples and families. I specialize in anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life cycle transitions including career change, birth of a child, divorce and bereavement. I am also interested in women’s issues, male psychology and gender issues.  I use EMDR to help people who have experienced trauma in their lives that continues to interfere with their daily functioning.

My primary philosophy guiding my work is that each person is a unique individual with unique issues that bring them into therapy.  I believe that the most important element to successful treatment, is to form a caring and compassionate relationship with each individual client. I value each person who enters my office and work to empower and validate every individual.

As a former dancer and current Yoga practitioner, I am very aware of the importance of exercise and healthy eating and incorporate mind/body techniques into my practice.  I utilize meditation, creative imagery and other modalities to advance healing of the mind/body.
